Silver Linings Playbook

I have to admit that I was rather skeptical about Silver Linings Playbook.

The trailer didn’t appeal to me and I’ve never been much of a Bradley Cooper fan. I’ve always thought that his performances were rather monotonous.

Boy, was I wrong.

The film centers on Cooper’s Pat Solitano, who’s recently been let out of rehab after being diagnosed with bi-polar.

Solitano’s stint in rehab happens as a court compromise after he finds his ex-wife in the shower with another man and almost beats him to death.

Living with his parents again, Pat is determined to try his best to recover and prove to his ex-wife that he’s changed.

Tiffany Maxwell, a recovering addicted enters Pat’s life and seems to see something in him that no one else does.

As a deal for helping him win his ex-wife back, Tiffany makes Pat promise to help her with an up-coming dance competition.

While the two begin to get closer, Pat starts to realise and fear the connection he has with Tiffany, who he thinks is the kind of woman he could never be with.

Inevitably, Tiffany makes him question his past marriage and whether everything that happened is truly his fault.

I appreciated the film for its subtle handling of the relationship between the two characters.

Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper deliver the love-hate complexity between the two brilliantly, battling their inner demons whilst trying to help each other.

Their relationship is as complex as the characters are individually.

Definitely a film for those who aren’t looking for a typical rom-com.
